Welcome
Welcome to the Springwell School website which holds a wealth of information. We are very proud to be the Co-Headteachers and lead our wonderful school. We are particularly proud of the all the pupils and their amazing achievements.
Springwell is a primary school for children aged 4 – 11 years with complex learning difficulties. Most of our children have a severe level of learning difficulties, and many have associated disabilities such as autism, speech and language disorders, sensory difficulties which can lead to high levels of dysregulation, anxiety, and challenging behaviour. Every child within the School has an Educational Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
All staff at Springwell work together to uphold our Rainbow Values, to ensure that our pupils have the best education possible. We pride ourselves on the quality of each individual pupil’s education and our work with families and carers. Working in partnership, we strive to achieve the very best for each child and offer support and guidance to families to enable consistency across home and school.
Our purpose-built school has undergone a significant expansion, which has created two buildings within our main site: Puffin Building for Years 1 and 2 and Partridge Building for Years 3 to 6. Both buildings have wonderful facilities and specialist teaching rooms, including food technology rooms, art rooms, ICT Suites, soft play, multi-sensory interactive rooms and a hydrotherapy pool which is located in Puffin Building, together with dining halls and office space. The Springwell environment is designed to be supportive, predictable and calming, allowing pupils to regulate and process and understand their world.
Our strapline of every child has a voice is lived out through the diverse range of support offered to facilitate and support pupil’s communication, such as aided language boards, Makaton signing, PECs (Picture Exchange communication system) and devices such as communication switches. The communication team in conjunction with our Speech and language therapists work with teachers and staff to really develop pupil’s language skills. We are passionate about ensuring every pupil is given the correct environment and support to help them become successful communicators.
In addition to our classes on the main site, we have three Satellite classes in local mainstream schools, Willow, Packham and Maple classes. These classes are taught by Springwell Staff and pupils are full members of our school; and on a daily basis join the mainstream classes for lessons and join in play and other activities. Our Early Years pupils are based in off-site classes at Start Point Sholing.
Springwell continues to develop educational practice to support children and their families with SEND, for example, training new teachers, running courses about SEND and taking part in research to enhance what we already provide.
